NCC Freedom Summer

NCC Freedom Summer

NCC Freedom Summer was a faith based civic engagement campaign inspired by the 1964 Freedom Summer, which sought to register voters and integrate Mississippi’s segregated political system. Almost one thousand five hundred volunteers,  including 254 NCC-sponsored clergy, worked in project offices across Mississippi to pursue this pioneering effort.

In the same spirit, NCC Freedom Summer sought to educate, engage, and empower voters for social change. This campaign mobilized voters in 5 priority states (Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan) through voter registration, voter education, and voter mobilization efforts for the 2024 election. NCC Freedom Summer, sponsored by Community of Christ,  launched the week of Juneteenth during NCC’s Impact Week and included a Freedom Summit in partnership with the Southern Poverty Law Center from August 15-17, 2024.
