Scripture

“Because your heart was penitent, and you humbled yourself before the LORD, when you heard how I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the LORD.”

2 Kings 22:19 NRSV

Background

The speaker is Huldah, who is mentioned only here and in 2 Chronicles 34. Nevertheless, at that time Huldah was known as a true prophet of God. She lived in Jerusalem and had connections to the king, since her husband cared for Josiah’s wardrobe, probably his ceremonial robes.

Prayer

Lord, My Savior,

Humble me so that I can be heard. Lead me to have regret when I have done wrong. Help me to follow your direction so that I may do better and have forgiveness and mercy in Your hands.

Amen.

NCC’s 2021 Lenten Reflections follow the Committee on the Uniform Series plan for reading and studying the Bible. Each Wednesday, we will share the scripture from the week’s Sunday Bible verses. We call on each of us to reflect on these passages of scripture during the seven weeks of Lent in light of your own experiences and relationships.
