Director of Communications and Development
As a nonprofit professional, Cynthia has over a decade of fundraising and communications experience at service-based organizations. She believes we have a fundamental responsibility to stand up against all forms of injustice.
Most recently, she served as executive director of DC-MD Justice For Our Neighbors until its merger with Just Neighbors in July 2020. Both organizations were part of a nationwide ministry of The United Methodist Church dedicated to providing affordable immigration legal services. Before taking on this responsibility, she was the Deputy Director of Development at Interfaith Works, a Montgomery County, MD organization working to end poverty and provide essential services for those experiencing homelessness. Other past positions were with a youth service corps, nonprofit affordable housing developer, and a national environmental organization.
During her career, she also founded her own company, Online and In Person LLC, which directed organizations and businesses on the implementation of successful communication strategies and published a much-needed local news site.
To expand her expertise, Cynthia trained as a producer and video technician at the local public access TV station, then wound up volunteering on two acclaimed documentaries and creating a yoga series for all abilities. She has blogged, taught yoga/meditation, and ran for local public office.
She was confirmed as a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and was active in her church in the New Jersey Synod when growing up. Now, Cynthia is a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Christ Episcopal Church. She studied Philosophy and Sociology at Gettysburg College where she met her husband, Charles, who is an economist for the federal government. They have two adult sons.
