The National Museum of African American History and Culture Is Added to Program of Christian Unity Gathering
One of the most difficult tickets to obtain in DC, the museum is providing admission for CUG participants for the morning of November 9th.
The newest Smithsonian museum opened September 24, 2016, near the Washington Monument, and has welcomed more than 1 million visitors to date. It is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, art, history, and culture.
Collection highlights include Nat Turner’s Bible; an extensive repository of photos and film documenting everyday Black life; a segregation-era Southern Railway car; African-American ephemera examining the Double Victory Military Experience; Michael Jackson’s fedora; and works by prolific artists, such as Charles Alston, Elizabeth Catlett, Romare Bearden, and Henry O. Tanner.
This museum experience will be a powerful experience for everyone. It will provide the foundation for powerful new programs of the NCC that will be also announced at CUG.
